With which creams is photoprotection necessary?

Photoprotection is necessary on a daily basis – for all conscious consumers this is clear. Special emphasis is placed on it in summer, when we are exposed to radiation the most. However, this is not the only time we are at risk.

There are active ingredients that are highly appreciated in the cosmetic industry. Their effects are often spectacular! However, they come at a price – tanning has to be abandoned. But is it really a big loss?

Glycolic acid

The topic is very broad in cosmetics. Acids are a cosmetic ingredient prized by both professionals and their clients for their results. Creams containing, for example, glycolic acid stimulate fibroplasts to divide, resulting in improved firmness of our skin. In addition, exfoliation of dead skin contributes to improving its appearance. We get rid of the stratum corneum, or dead, keratinized epidermis, which is a breeding ground for bacteria. In addition to the visible “to the naked eye” effects, such as visibly younger-looking skin, there is another advantage – less keratinized epidermis makes the skin better absorb creams and the active ingredients they contain.

However, we have to pay for an even tone and radiant complexion with caution. Getting rid of the stratum corneum risks weakening the hydrolipod barrier – a natural protection against external factors. In order to maintain the effect of beautiful, rejuvenated skin, we need to take care of proper sun protection!

Retinol

Retinol is one of the best studied molecules used in the Beauty industry. It has a strong restorative effect – smooths wrinkles, brightens and unifies skin tone. In addition to its anti-aging effectiveness, retinol regulates sebum secretion and tightens pores, reducing the risk of the appearance of imperfections. For this reason, it is recommended for people with the first signs of aging as well as young people struggling with, for example, juvenile acne.

As with acids, we must also pay for retinol’s impressive effects with caution. We dispel the myth – retinol is not a phototoxic substance. On the skin surface, it is phototoxic. This means that when it comes into contact with the sun, it can cause irritation and the appearance of discoloration. Therefore, it is used only at night. In the morning, when you wash it off your face and apply sunscreen, you are free to go out in the sun. Although, of course, the big exposure is discouraged.

Tanning after all

Even self-conscious people sometimes ask us the question – how long do I have to wait after using acid or retinol creams before I can tan again?

After using acids, we should wait at least a week for the skin to regenerate. During this time, the highest sun protection is not only advisable, but necessary!

With retinol, there is no exact time presented, because the skin of different people reacts differently. If your skin does not react with irritation, the next day you can safely spend time outside. However, if burning or redness has appeared, then in addition to sunscreen, we advise you to avoid going out in the sun.

Otherwise, we are taking a risk:

  • serious burns,
  • the appearance of spots and discoloration, which even aesthetic medicine will not get rid of,
  • in extreme cases even skin cancer!

Most of our fans do not need to be introduced to the Novo and Retino lines – they are our bestsellers. For those who are just getting to know us, a brief description below:

Novo and Novo Forte – a line of creams with glycolic acid at a concentration of 8 or 12%. They have a strong rejuvenating, anti-wrinkle effect. Their effectiveness is confirmed by customers, often using the term “wow effect.”

Retino and Retino Forte + Retino Eye – an intensely restorative line of cosmetics with vitamin A. The secret of the effectiveness of this line is the synergistic combination of retinol and ecoRetinol.

Basic or forte version?

Do you know why the two creams mentioned above come in a basic version and a forte version? Since you can use a cream with a higher concentration of the active ingredient, what’s the point of buying the former? We assure you that it makes sense.

The weaker concentration is for people whose skin is not used to strong active ingredients. Having sensitive skin, we should not immediately reach for the forte version, so as not to risk irritation. Gradually getting the skin used to the action of the acid will certainly result in a better result than irritating it at once with a very strong preparation.

The skin is getting used to the performance of the basic version, and we expect better results? At this point, we can reach for the forte version. We enjoy it until spring – then we recommend returning to the basic version, even if our skin has long responded well to higher concentrations. However, once again we emphasize – when choosing to use Novo or Retino creams in the summer, it is mandatory to use high sun protection! We recommend City SUN SPF50+. In addition to effective UV-A and UB-B protection, it provides shielding from harmful blue light emitted by electronic devices.

Interesting

In a private message, we have been asked several times about this, so we are responding publicly to the question “is it enough to apply City SUN in the morning or do I need to correct?”
The answer is – yes, you need to correct several times during the day. There is no way that sunscreen can protect us all day after a single application. This applies exactly to all filters available on the market.
