How to care for your skin in summer – 5 tips from a cosmetologist

In summer, our skin is exposed to many factors that irritate it. Sun, wind, air conditioning, hot air and sea water and sand on the beach are all factors that negatively affect its condition. Summer care is quite a challenge. It is advisable to use cosmetics with a light texture, they should absorb quickly and not leave a greasy film.

It is worth remembering a few rules of summer care:

1. remember SPF

Using sunscreen should be a basic rule of skin care in the summer. Whether we go to the beach or to work at the office, we should use sunscreen. Regardless of our skin type, we should use a sunscreen.

Excess UV radiation causes premature aging of our skin. Photoaging is a factor that negatively affects the condition of the skin. It causes sagging of the tissue, severe dryness, discoloration, wrinkles and furrows are formed.

One should also be mindful of Blue Light radiation, or radiation that is emitted by smartphones, TVs and computers. Studies show that it also has negative effects on the skin.

It is worth reaching for products that provide high sun protection, Blue Light and nurture our skin. The sunscreen should also contain antioxidants, soothing niacinamide and moisturizing ingredients.

Reminder! Using sunscreen doesn’t mean no tan

2. Cleanse and exfoliate dead skin

The skin, especially in summer, is prone to irritation caused by excess sebum, lingering dead skin and pollution from environmental factors. Proper cleansing with dedicated makeup remover products and exfoliation with enzyme scrubs can remove what is weighing down our skin and restore its natural homeostasis.

The basic home care routine should be a well-executed makeup remover. Cleansing combined with exfoliation of dead skin with an enzyme scrub removes impurities, cosmetic residues and excess sebum from the skin. Prepares the skin for the application of skin care creams.

3. Use antioxidants – vitamin C

Vitamin C is a key active ingredient that should be used during summer skin care. It lightens discolorations and strengthens blood vessels. By stimulating the synthesis of ceramides in the epidermis, it ensures that the skin is properly moisturized in summer. Creams with vitamin C protect against free radicals and premature skin aging.

4. Hydrate and moisturize

High air temperatures make our skin dehydrated and dry. Excessive water loss from the epidermis makes our skin rough, gray and lackluster.

During warm summer days, it is worth betting on cosmetics with a light texture that will not clog pores. Sebaceous glands under the influence of high temperatures will produce sebum more intensively, which can eventually lead to an increase in acne lesions and imperfections.

For daytime, lightweight, moisturizing creams that contain liposomal glacial water, hyaluronic acid, polysaccharides, among others, will work best. For the night, on the other hand, we can use richer textures and serums that contain a concentrated dose of nutrients such as vitamin C. If our skin is very dehydrated we can use massage butters.

Also remember to drink water. The human body is made up of 70% water, so proper hydration is very important for the proper functioning of the entire body. Drink at least 2l of water a day.

5. Don’t forget to visit the beauty salon

Comprehensive skin care is a combination of beauty treatments at the salon and skin care at home. It is the cosmetic treatments that make it possible to provide the skin with high, concentrated doses of active ingredients and modern technologies to improve skin parameters.

In summer, when our skin is prone to irritation it is especially important to take comprehensive care of it.
