Skin care for pregnant women

When a woman becomes pregnant, a great deal changes in her life. A new member of the family, however tiny, always creates confusion. Well, at least it’s hard to get bored with your kid. Pregnancy is a state when a woman needs special care. She needs to eat healthy, exercise – to prepare her body for the hardships of carrying a growing baby in the womb. What is happening to her skin?

Skin of a pregnant woman

Our skin is our business card. During pregnancy, a woman’s entire body undergoes changes, which is not indifferent to the appearance of her skin.

Facial skin

Increases in the hormones estrogen, progesterone and melanocytes can darken the skin and mucous membrane areas. This is called hyperpigmentation.

A common problem is chloasma – hyperpigmentation that usually appears on the face. They are the result of uneven distribution of melanin. The occurrence of ostraca depends largely on genetic predisposition, but exposure to sunlight can worsen the problem. We distinguish between three types of osteoma, based on location:

  • central when lesions appear on the forehead, nose, above the upper lip and chin,
  • zygomatic when lesions appear on the cheeks,
  • mandibular, as the name suggests occurs in the angle of the jaw.

As a preventive measure, high sun protection applied throughout the pregnancy is recommended, even when there is not much sun outside and it seems unnecessary.

With an increase in estrogen, our blood vessels dilate. The result, unfortunately, can be vascular lesions, which usually appear on the face, neck or décolleté.

Body

The biggest concern for pregnant women is stretch marks. This problem affects not only pregnant women, but with them they are most often associated. With weight gain, the skin must stretch. When it can’t keep up, and we don’t support it, stretch marks will appear. Initially, they will be clearly red. Only with time do they turn white, and eventually turn into pale scars.

When the skin stretches, moles can also become enlarged. We sensitize you to watch them and stay in touch with your dermatologist. A specialist will notice when any of the changes are worrisome, although on the surface they may seem the same as the others.

Skin care during pregnancy

The basic element of skin care during pregnancy is to keep the skin moisturized and supple. It is worth equipping yourself with lotions, butters that increase the elasticity of the skin, thereby reducing the risk of stretch marks. We should approach the abdominal area, breasts, thighs and buttocks with special care, as this is where the skin most needs elasticity when pregnancy changes a woman’s body.

Choose natural cosmetics, preferably designed for pregnant women, combining lubricating, moisturizing, regenerative and anti-inflammatory effects.
We know how sensitive a topic cellulite is for women. Therefore, a great many products have been developed to help fight it. They contain substances that accelerate fat burning and are discouraged during pregnancy. We recommend choosing an alternative – massages.

When we talk about facial care, two elements are important:

Moisture

Many women face very dry skin during pregnancy. As you know, dry skin is more prone to the appearance of signs of aging. Therefore, finding a moisturizing cream and using it regularly is highly recommended.

Sun protection

The skin of a pregnant woman is sensitive to external factors, and may react to them differently than normal. Due to overdrying, it is fragile, and the sun further aggravates this condition. In addition, tanning during pregnancy significantly increases the likelihood of hyperpigmentation. The solution is a sunscreen suitable for everyday use – with high effectiveness and a light texture.

Anti-aging in pregnancy

During pregnancy, anti-aging cosmetics should be chosen carefully. We advise against using creams with a high concentration of retinol. A very popular and valued ingredient in cosmetics can have adverse effects during pregnancy.
AHA fruit acids – due to their irritating effect are not advisable. They can aggravate the problem of discoloration.

Instead of acids and retinol for this time, it’s a good idea to arm your beauty kit with a good enzyme peel, mask and Vitamin C cream, and you can safely return to more invasive active ingredients after the end of the breastfeeding period.
